GRAVEWORM are one of the leading extreme metal acts in Europe. In the 18 years of their history so far, the Italian dark metallers have not only achieved to deliver quality music constantly, they have released classics if the genre (just think back to 2003’s „Engraved In Black”). It’s exactly this very special mixture of symphonic black metal elements, gothic and thrash, that makes GRAVEWORM sound so unique. And even in their nineteenth year of history, the band doesn’t fail to surprise: even though GRAVEWORM are known for delivering quality sound – only few would have expected the band to return that energetic, strong and powerful. Songs such as „Buried Alive” or „Blood Torture Death” sound very fresh, are bursting of power and come up with strong melodies. This immensely high quality level is kept up over the whole playing time of “Ascending Hate”, which closes with a very GRAVEWORM’ish cover version of the Bon Jovi hymn “Runaway” (available as bonus track on the Digipak version). More than three and a half years after their latest release “Fragments Of Death”, the band returns in amazing shape and with an album that exceeds all expectations.
1999 saw the release of „As The Angels Reach The Beauty”. With GRAVEWORM’s third album „Scourge of Malice”, the time had come to play their first headliner tour. 2003, „Engraved in Black” was released next, followed by „(N)Utopia” (2005). GRAVEWORM for the first time also tour North America. The band’s history then continues with the release of „Collateral Defect” (2007), followed by „Diabolical Figures” in 2009. Again it only took two years and the band’s next album „Fragments Of Death” was ready to be released. GRAVEWORM went on to play another headlining tour and then even toured China. Autumn 2014 saw GRAVEWORM again on the road, leading the re-established Wacken Road show.
For the first time in their career, GRAVEWORM couldn’t keep up with their usual rhythm of releasing a new album every two years. It took the band three and a half years this time, which was (despite all the touring activities) mostly caused by reasons beyond control.
But during that time GRAVEWORM founding member and former main songwriter Stefan Unterpertinger has returned to the band, after beeing away for almost a decade.
In this new constellation, GRAVEWORM stared working on what woulöd become the follow-up to „Fragements Of Death”. On July 7th “Ascending Hate” will finally be upon us. The album was forged in the renowned Dreamsound Studios (Munich) and brings GRAVEWORM back with a bang!
