After spending the past month with their song featured in the trailer for Disney’s Big Hero 6 (out today) St. Louis rockers, Greek Fire are on “Top of the World” as the track has begun to shoot up the sales charts.
The song is an ideal fit with the action packed animated trailer and has sent viewers in search of the artist delivering the soaring guitars and larger than life chorus. Between Shazam, YouTube and social networks, the massive ad campaign has had a huge impact on the independent band with both the song and the video for the track gaining full momentum.
Formed in 2008, Greek Fire is most known for consisting of members from Story of the Year (Philip Sneed better known as “Moon” on vocals and Ryan Phillips on guitar) and Maybe Today, (Johnny Venus on drums and Mark Joseph Roth on bass). In 2012, the band, their families and fans were devastated with their Johnny Venus’ leukemia diagnosis and thankfully he is currently in remission, making their current success that much sweeter for the team.
This December, Greek Fire will play three shows with Story of the Year and The F!*K Off and Dies. The string of shows is appropriately titled, “Family Night” as all three bands feature members of Story of the Year. This is the first time all three bands have played together.
“Top of the World” is one of five tracks on Greek Fire’s current EP, LOST, released independently and funded by their Pledge Music campaign. For an indie band like Greek Fire, having the track picked up by Disney, whose last animated film hit, Frozen gave us one of the year’s biggest radio hits, is a great example of the opportunities that still exist for artists today. Along with garnering a spot in the Big Hero 6 trailer, “Top Of The World” has enjoyed placement in various ad campaigns such as “Upgrade With Gatorade,” GMC’s “Yukon Sizzle Video” as well as the Australian Open and the NCAA CBS Prime Time March Madness Bumper campaign.
Since forming, Greek Fire have brought their blend of stadium-ready alternative rock and hard hitting progressive pop on tour as both an opening act and headliner in the U.S. and internationally. The foursome have also performed at Vans Warped Tour, Rockstar Uproar, Pointfest, Q101 Jamboree, Rock On The Range and Summerfest.
