EverclearTHE PASADENA PLAYHOUSE (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director) will present, in association with Zona Rosa Coffee, ONE NIGHT WITH EVERCLEAR on Monday, October 14.  The event also continues the series of ONE NIGHT WITH…concert events which celebrate Los Angeles’ musical diversity and eclectic music landscape.  This series was launched with multiple-GRAMMY award-winning Ozomatli this past April and was inspired by the Playhouse’s record-breaking pre-Broadway run of One Night With Janis Joplin.  The series continued with last month’s Crosby and Nash concert, a collaboration with Five Acres, a local social services nonprofit.  A portion of the proceeds from the Everclear concert will benefit The Playhouse’s Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project.   Tickets are now on sale for this special evening taking place Monday, October 14, at 8:00 p.m.  A limited number of VIP tickets are available which include premium seating, exclusive “meet-n-greet” with Everclear, a pre-show cocktail reception with open bar and catering provided by Tender Greens and Zona Rosa Coffee and a signed collectible Everclear poster.

“Rock ‘n Roll music has a magical gift of bringing people together and The Playhouse continues its commitment to giving back to the community with our ‘One Night With…’ concert series,” said Playhouse Executive Director Elizabeth Doran. “The songs of multi- Platinum-selling band Everclear come from the heart and soul of American rock music – which we are celebrating as we open our season with Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller.  The Playhouse provides a fantastic and intimate experience for music fans of all ages – again and again, patrons return to experience great music here in our beautiful and historic 658-seat venue.”

“When I look back at what Everclear has done, I see a lot of things that have changed and a lot of things that have stayed consistent,” said Everclear’s founding singer/guitarist Art Alexakis.  “But at the end of the day, I’m still doing the same thing I’ve always done.  It’s still guitar-based rock ‘n’ roll, and I’m still just telling stories, which is all I ever wanted to do I’m proud of what we’ve done and I still enjoy it.  And, I feel blessed that other people like it, too.  The band and I look forward to performing our music at The Pasadena Playhouse.”

Art Alexakis and Everclear‘s clear-eyed willingness to confront life’s darker margins has been a hallmark of Everclear’s output ever since the group’s independently released 1993 debut World of Noise.  The band’s relentless touring regimen and D.I.Y. promotional tactics helped to set the stage for the platinum-selling breakthrough of 1995’s Sparkle and Fade, which spawned the hits “Santa Monica” and “Heroin Girl,” while establishing Everclear as a popular live attraction and Alexakis as an engaged and articulate media presence.  The band’s ascendancy continued with 1997’s double-Platinum album So Much for the Afterglow, which produced the radio hits “Everything to Everyone,” “I Will Buy You A New Life,” and “Father of Mine.”   The Everclear band includes Art Alexakis (vocal and guitars), Dave French (guitars), Josh Crawley (keyboards), Freddy Herrera (bass) and Sean Winchester (drums).

“Music, art, and community have always been a part of the experience at Zona Rosa Caffe. For 19 years, we have showcased many jazz and Latin jazz musicians, two of which have moved on and to become Grammy award-winning bands, Ozomatli and Quetzal Flores,” said Michael Moreno of Zona Rosa Coffee and Zona Rosa Caffe.  “It is this love and appreciation for music and art that has brought about the newest collaboration with the Pasadena Playhouse. We are thrilled to bring Everclear to the historic Playhouse stage.”

The Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project was organized in 2005 to support The Pasadena Playhouse’s vision to build a legacy of artistic and theatrical diversity.  Embracing diversity at The Pasadena Playhouse goes beyond promoting tolerance; it is about exploring and celebrating the human experience shared by people of all colors, genders, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, learning and physical abilities, and socioeconomic positions. This initiative gives priority to eclectic and dynamic productions featuring a diverse array of artists, actors, and playwrights. Our productions reflect the diverse richness that defines (in an integral and not ancillary way) our community, while never forgetting that primary goal of theater – to entertain.   It empowers and enriches young people of diverse ethnicities from disenfranchised communities through free student performances and arts education programs; and cultivates writers, actors, directors and designers of all backgrounds through new play development, mainstage productions and outreach programs.
