POP EVIL have landed at #1 on the Billboard Indie Chart today with their all new LP titled UP. Released last week, the LP also pulled in at #25 Billboard Top 200, #16 Overall and #3 Top Hard Music albums.
“Footsteps” will also be used in a new upcoming Dodge Ram Truck commercial starting on September 11th and will run for six months. “Footsteps” is currently #3 on the Rock Radio Charts. It also has been a featured ESPN sync track. The single is not only the fastest charting single the band has to date, but is also the fastest growing Independent Record Label Single at Rock Radio this year.
The band released UP last week to some serious critical accolades. Blabbermouth called it “an album that will rock the socks (and other clothes, no doubt) off their fans.” Huffington Post said the new LP “finds the Michigan band is in fine form.” News powerhouse USA Today even recognized that Pop Evil have “become a familiar presence on rock radio” in a recent feature with vocalist Leigh Kakaty.
As if all this wasn’t enough, the band recently had the honor of Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell officially declaring August 21st “Pop Evil Day” in the band’s hometown. Click here to see the Mayor surprise the band on live TV last week.
POP EVIL released a flurry of tracks off their LP before its release. “Footsteps” led the charge with “In Disarray,” “Dead In The Water” and “Ghost Of Muskegon” right behind it. The band went on to debut the music video for that hit single, “Footsteps.” The video was directed by long-time collaborator Johan Carlén who has helmed the last handful of visually stunning music videos the band has released including “Trenches,” “Deal With The Devil” and “Torn to Pieces.”
Purposefully assembled at Studio Litho, Robert Lang Studios and London Bridge Studios with producer Adam Kasper, UP is the sound of a rock band cementing a powerful identity that’s steadily materialized over the course of three prior full-length slabs. The inspirational soon to be live (June 1st) staple “Footsteps,” – POP EVIL prove their burgeoning success is no accident.
UP is a bold reintroduction and step forward, with guitarists NICK FUELLING and DAVEY GRAHS, bassist MATT DIRITO, drummer CHACHI RIOT and LEIGH KAKATY at the top of their game. It’s always a bit cliché, not to mention questionable, when a band says their new album is the best one yet. But in the case of POP EVIL, it’s an absolute fact.
POP EVIL smashes through the odds like a battering ram, weathering the trials and tribulations of paying dues with a steadfast resilience owing much to their blue collar and middle class backgrounds, and building a worldwide audience one fan at a time. As the moniker promises when emblazoned on a CD or radio dial, POP EVIL conjures aggressive riffs and hard charging sing-a-longs with emotional heft and melodic power in equal measure. It’s music by the people, for the people.
