Yahoo! Music has been very supportive of McDERMOTT since his time on season 3 of NBC’s wildly popular singing competition show “The Voice,” where TERRY placed second. Of the new single and video, Lyndsey Parker wrote, “…another stunning, sweeping Britrock ballad…judging by the new video for the track, which Yahoo’s Reality Rocks is thrilled to premiere here, Terry hasn’t lost the feeling at all. The stylish clip, which was shot by DZR Images at an abandoned Six Flags amusement park in Terry’s adopted hometown of New Orleans, perfectly suits the dreamy song…and yes, it does rock.” (11/5/13)
“Lose This Feeling” showcases TERRY’s commanding, soaring vocals and was co-written by McDERMOTT and frequent musical collaborator and friend Todd Burman, formerly of Australian band Juke Kartel. It is available now at https://itunes.apple.com/id/album/lose-this-feeling-single/id730448523. In a recent interview with Fairfax County Times in VA, TERRY shared the personal inspiration for the new single. “This song is very close to my heart,” he shared. “When I came to America with my band [Driveblind] and we were working on our first record my mother had passed away only a year prior and a lot of songs that were coming out of me were related to that experience or at least touched on it. By the time we finished that record and by the time Driveblind was getting ready to break up, I deliberately moved away from that subject. I felt like I didn’t want to write about it anymore. But when my daughter was born … she was the spitting image of my mother. It made me think of the bittersweet nature of how life continues and people live on and are born. I was thinking about that a lot and I think that perpetual feeling; that even the best of things like one of your children being brought into this world is tainted by the past and affected by it. It’s really bittersweet. I think for the first time in years I decided I wanted to hit that subject again.” (11/1/13)
Fans can look forward to more new music very soon as TERRY and his band The Bonfires–guitarist Dave Rosser, bassist Alex Smith, drummer Eric Bolivar and keyboardist Rich Hyland–are putting the finishing touches on a forthcoming EP, to be released later this year.
McDERMOTT & The Bonfires also have a couple live shows on the calendar. Tomorrow night (11/6), the band will perform at Los Angeles’ Molly Malone’s, marking TERRY’s first club gig in Los Angeles since “The Voice.” A few tickets are still available at http://bit.ly/158fHsm. Also, on Sunday, December 8, McDERMOTT will have the honor of performing the National Anthem at the New Orleans Saints NFL game. Just last week (10/30) he did the same before the New Orleans Pelicans NBA game to kick off their basketball season. Following the Saints game on 12/8, TERRY & The Bonfires will headline the House of Blues New Orleans. Tickets for that show are on sale now at http://bit.ly/GPQha4.
In other exciting news, TERRY was recently asked to come back to “The Voice” set to help out on the other side of the microphone, interviewing contestants of the current season 5 following their intense Battle Round performances.
