Thomas Earl Petty; better known as Tom Petty has died at the age of 66.  He would have turned 67 this month.

On Sunday, October 1, 2017, Petty was found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest, at his home in Malibu, CA.   After a heartbeat was established by paramedics, he was rushed to UCLA Medical Center, where he was put on life support in critical condition, until tests showed no brain activity.  The decision was then made to take him off life support on Monday, October 2, 2017.

Jumping the gun, CBS announced that the singer had passed away in the early morning hours of October 2nd, which turned out to be false and the wrong information spread across social media like wildfire until the reports were corrected to reflect that he was still alive at that time.

The Gainsville, FL native rose to fame as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and was celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band this year with a world tour.  Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had just played three sold out shows at the Hollywood Bowl on  September 21, 22, 25, 2017, in Los Angeles and was taking a little time off before heading out again.  His next stop would have been at the Iridium (Benmont Tench SOLO) on November 8th and 9th, in New York, NY.

As the world takes to their social media accounts to share their sadness we will always remember the man who was Runnin’ Down A Dream Into The Great Wide Open.
