Who says rock and roll is dead? Whoever the culprit, they have certainly not heard this EP yet. Überkill, a London-based hard rock band, has recently released their self-titled EP. This hard rock quintet consists of Michael Blackhart (vocals), Mike Cole (guitar), Nick Childs (guitar), Carsten Hoyer (bass), and Gray Tull (drums).
Überkill’s new EP, along with their recently released new single Sex on a Leash, have been produced by Keith More (ex ASIA) and mastered by Ade Emsley (I am I, Voodoo Six, Iron Maiden). Each track on this EP feature the heavily guitar-driven sound and dynamic vocals of some of the most successful classic rock bands of years passed. The tracks on this album flow seamlessly into each other. And, unlike other EP’s, this album seems to carry a certain theme of gratification with it. It seems to nudge the listener and say, “Hey, remember the good times?”
The EP’s first track, Two Timin’ Woman, features the musings of a rocker that has been scorned too many times by love– but with a refusal to play the victim. Both Sex On A Leash and Feel So Good highlight the talent of both guitarists with impressive guitar solos. Just One Thing could serve as the next party anthem for the Überkill admirer.
Despite this EP being a new addition to the music world, the entire disc has a way of bringing a sense of pleasant nostalgia to the ear of the listener.
With each new year comes the need to explore new music and, for fans of the classic rock genre, listening to this EP should be a requirement in 2015. Überkill’s melodic brand of heavy rock, with an obvious influence from the classic rock performers of yesteryear, gives them a modern edge with a comforting familiarity– like they’ve been your favorite band for years.
