Faster Pussycat took the stage at The Canyon in Agoura Hills on February 27th and brought some good old fashioned 80’s rock to the stage. Taime Downe (vocals), Ace Von Johnson (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), Xristian Simon (guitar) and Chad Stewart (drums) took no prisoners as they took the stage.
Wind blowing through Stewart’s hair, Downe clad in police-style hat, leather, black lipstick and an electric cigarette, was reminiscent of a time when music was just fun and life was simpler. The show seemed to start off a little slow, it took a while for everyone to get moving but Sex, Drugs, Rock N Roll brought the whole place to their feet and truly infused the crowd like a shot in the arm! Bathroom Wall seemed to be a crowd favorite getting everyone singing along. They slowed things down a bit for their rendition of Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain as well as a cover of INXS’s Don’t Change, but the crowd seemed to really connect most when they played House Of Pain bringing a sense of intimacy to the show. Their stage presence and interaction with the crowd was electric at times, demonstrating this was by no means their first rodeo.
Packed with, classic, heartfelt guitar solos and raw vocals, it truly was a kick ass show. Faster Pussycat remains relevant all these years later, not only were there original fans from back in the day rockin’ out, there were new fans taking notice and banging their heads. They brought the 80’s Sunset Strip to a usually sleepy town and will hopefully return. They stayed true to their classic style and it paid off. Nostalgia, vintage 80’s is never out of style and this performance by Faster Pussycat proved that.
At the end of the night, Screamer Magazine had the chance to speak briefly with drummer Chad Stewart, who mentioned that they were heading out to Las Vegas in the morning to play the Las Vegas Country Saloon and planned to kick off a tour this spring. With their new album being close to finished and their new music video for their single Pretty Ugly about to come out, they are just really excited to be back on the road and for the world to hear their new album.
