Kent, UK-based band Crashgate originally released their first full length album Crude Jokes, Death Notes & Unicorns in 2013, but this band’s album is worth taking a revisit to as their second single Tear It Down was just released to radio on March 2, 2015.
The first single release from the album was As One. It strikes you as a bit different than the rest of the album. Maybe a little less heavy? Upon further research you’ll find the song is often a part of their live performances, and seems to be a favorite of their fans. It’s a dedication to their fans, an anthem of sorts, as they and their fans are “as one.”
I often question why do bands even put an “Intro” song on an album? I can’t be the only one who has ever questioned it. But now I know why. Crashgate’s “Intro” track is actually one of the best songs on the album. It’s melodic and slow in the beginning before transitioning into the band’s signature heavy sound. Reminds you a lot of the style Metallica has embraced. It really sets up the album; it’s like they are saying, “Get ready, we’re going to start this off nice and slow for you, but the rest is going to get intense.”
The single Tear It Down is your typical aggressive, angst-heavy rock song; Nothing extra special here.
Crashgate is working to release their second album in 2016. Until then, if you like old school, hard hitting rock similar to Metallica and Pantera with a little bit of screaming vocals mixed in, check this album out! If you love those hard-hitting, guitar riff rich songs pay particular attention to Whisky Makes Me Frisky, The Getaway, and Deal With It.
