LOS ANGELES, CA – Monday, May 16, 2016 — SLAYER, the uncompromising super-heroes of thrash metal, is set to do a takeover of San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC). The occupation will begin on Thursday, July 21 with a special live performance at the intimate-capacity House of Blues. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 20 at 10:00AM PT. For ticket and purchasing info, log on to www.Slayer.net.
Said Slayer’s Kerry King, “Comic-Con?!? I can’t believe they are gonna let us shred the HOB San Diego!! It will definitely be a night of fury and intensity that the city won’t soon forget. We will be coming off a seven week European run, so Slayer’s guns will be blazing!”
The invasion will prove evil has no boundaries as Slayer also will execute two very exclusive signings inside the walls of San Diego Comic-Con with a brand new publishing partner, Dark Horse Comics. These signings will take place Friday, July 22, booth #2615, and at the Nuclear Blast Records booth, #501. This is a once in a lifetime chance for fans South of Heaven in San Diego to experience Decades of Aggression at the Altar of Comic-Con. More details to be disclosed soon.
But this Comic-Con captivity gets even better. Slayer recently partnered with BMX brand Subrosa for the four-bike “Cradle to Grave” collection, comprised of the Slayer Balance, Slayer 20, Slayer 26, and the Slayer Urban Terrain Bike. All of these bikes are intended for BMX bike riders to “use and abuse,” and some of the models will be on display at the Nuclear Blast Comic-Con booth (#501). The entire Subrosa/Slayer “Cradle to Grave” collection will be available worldwide in October.
“My brother, my friends and I used to ride bikes in the early seventies,” said Slayer’s Tom Araya. “We built a figure-eight track with ramps in my backyard where we would race and crash into each other. It was a precursor to BMX. We would go around the neighborhood to collect bikes that people had thrown away to salvage them, so it’s cool to see Subrosa building a line of Slayer bikes.”
For more than three decades, Slayer’s onslaught has proven the band to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet, the band that other heavy acts are measured against and aspire to. The two-time Grammy-winners have also accumulated an abundance of certified Gold Albums along with “Best…” awards from media outlets all over the world, including Kerrang!, SPIN, Metal Hammer, Revolver, and Esquire. Throughout Slayer’s history, the band has never faltered in unleashing its extreme and focused sonic assault, and, unlike many of its contemporaries who “commercialized” their sound, Slayer has remained crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream. Slayer’s founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed in 2013, and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for him since. Paul Bostaph, who was Slayer’s drummer from ’94 – ’01, has rejoined bassist/vocalist Tom Araya and guitarist Kerry King, and is back behind the kit.
In September 2015, Slayer released Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album, the first without Hanneman and first with producer Terry Date, to widespread rave reviews and the highest chart debut of the band’s career. The band also teamed up with director BJ McDonnell for two high-concept and brutal music videos for the album’s “Repentless” (8.4-million views) and then for “You Against You.” (2.6-million views).
