Rockstars Come Out to Bowl for Ronnie at 4th Annual Charity Event

On Oct 25, the 4th annual Bowl 4 Ronnie was held at Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City, Calif. The yearly event brings together a community of likeminded individuals who are there to support a great cause and get a chance to mingle with rock stars, eat pizza and bowl for trophies all in the name of the late singer, Ronnie James Dio, whose own life was cut short from cancer. The fund, founded by Wendy Dio, is dedicated to bringing awareness to the public about lifesaving screenings and detection and through its charitable contributions lends monetary support to those developing new treatments and screenings. In addition to the donations from bowlers and spectators, the evening boasts a live auction of collectibles including autographed bowling pins, custom bowling ball, and gift baskets.

The event opened with a rock star studded red carpet and early VIP for the celebs. Walking the carpet this year again, and acting as master of ceremonies, Eddie Trunk (AXS TV, Sirius) made his way talking to interviewers and posing for a few photos. Also, this year, Prophets of Rage guitarist, Tom Morello, who comes with his own bowling ball, so you know he means business, bowling again on Team Trunk. Honoring the memory of Ronnie James Dio, were many of his former bandmates: Geezer Butler, Scott Warren (Dio Disciples), Doug Aldrich (Dead Daisies), and Simon Wright (Dio Disciples).

The carpet was abuzz when actor/musician Jack Black (Tenacious-D) joined the room. Black known for his outrageous over the top humor mugged for the cameras and gave props to Dio by pointing to the embroidered name on his jacket. Others joined in to take pictures with Black and the camera flashes went wild when Wendy Dio joined in on the hijinks. Other notables making the carpet walk this year included actor/musician Sean McNabb (Lynch Mob), Marty O’Brien (Lita Ford) , Richie Kotzen (The Winery Dogs), Sonia Harley, Ira Black (Thin Lizzy), Sam Koltun, Rich Sacco & Patrick Stone of Budderside, Otep Shemaya (Otep), Gilby Clarke, Joey Vera (Armored Saints), August Zadra (Dennis DeYoung), Ahmet & Diva Zappa, actor Al Colonel (The Last Ship), Marc Ferreri (Keel), Jeff Scott Soto (Sons of Apollo) and Chris Latham & Calico Cooper (Beasto Blanco).

This year’s winning team, and previous year’s winners, was Team Trunk with Marc Ferrari, Gilby Clarke, Fred Coury, Richie Kotzen, Tami Laster, Bret Scallions, and Ebay auction winner Steve Prziborowisz who donated $7,500. Second place went to corporate team Metal Blade Records headed up by Ahmet Zappa and family. There were plenty of congratulations and general good sportsmanship, but the real winner of the night was the Stand Up and Shout Cancer fund, as they presented a check for $61,000 to Dr. David Wong of the UCLA School of Dentistry where he spearhead his team on developing a non-invasive saliva test for cancer screening.
