VIP Recording is a new state-of-the-art recording facility located in the upscale enclave of Calabasas, Calif. With a vintage Trident A board (formerly owned by Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive) and equipped with the most modern technology available in music today, VIP Recording has all that is needed to produce, record and edit professional sound recordings under one roof. The new owner of VIP Recording is longtime music executive and producer, Gerry Gallagher.
The 2,500 square foot, vaulted ceiling “Live Room” has a wonderful and authentic sound. The control room — in addition to being a state-of-the-art digital recording experience — has the capacity to work from “old school” analog tape format as well. The studio is truly unique in that it can boast a full-sound echo chamber. The “Live Room” houses a 1919 Steinway piano (with Midi) and the Steppenwolf B3 organ that “Born To Be Wild” was recorded on.
VIP Recording is also now the musical home to El Chicano, the legendary rock/soul/jazz/fusion band that took the world by storm in the 1970’s with such hits as “Viva Tirado,” “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Tell Her She’s Lovely” and “Juntos,” as well as composing music tracks for television and movies such as “Last Tango In Paris,” “Baretta’s Theme,” “Donnie Brasco,” “The Secret Of My Success” and “Pallbearer” to name a few. El Chicano are presently finishing recording a twelve- song CD that has them collaborating with some of the biggest names in the music business. Gallagher, serving as El Chicano’s producer says, “VIP Recording is perfect for El Chicano and is a dream come true for me after thirty-five years in the music business. El Chicano will be in studio for the next few weeks to finish off the current CD and we already have the structure of the next CD worked out and ready to start recording immediately after that.”
VIP Recording is oozing with excitement, music and expectations for both Gallagher and El Chicano. Freddie Sanchez (founding member of El Chicano) states, “we are so proud of the new studio that Gerry has provided and we have some very special music and collaborations that will be out to the public soon. Gerry has dedicated his heart and soul to music over the past thirty-five years and more, so he has the heart, soul and ear for the “El Chicano” sound. Between us we look forward to sharing the magic that we have been working on and releasing our CD to the “El Chicano” fans worldwide over the next few months.”
Asked why Gallagher named the studio VIP Recording, he responded, “for two reasons: First, we have provided a VIP environment within the walls of this studio which everyone that enters will experience. Secondly, this is a 360-degree journey as El Chicano was originally known as the VIP’s and it was just the right name to name the studio and bring the musical experience the full 360. We look forward to many, many fun and wonderful years at the studio and making music that will last the test of time.”
Gallagher is not stopping here; he is in the planning process to build similar recording studios in both Maui and The Bahamas where he owns property, so the VIP Recording name will be expanding. He says with pride: “The VIP studios have always been a dream, and it is so exciting and rewarding to see this dream coming together. It is also even more rewarding when I can share this musical dream with friends, musicians and fans of music worldwide.”
