Just three months ago The Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas had its Grand Opening at The Linq, located between the Flamingo and The Quad in a new entertainment district which is also now the home of The High Roller wheel. The 80,000 square foot venue offers a large standing room floor with balcony level viewing as well. Dark distressed wood and vintage signage makes one feel they are walking back in time yet is brought back to date by the monstrous sound being pumped throughout the multi-leveled building. It would seem ‘The Bowl’ offers it all with bowling on one of the 32 lanes while having the opportunity to catch your favorite band, dining and drinks at the bar, outside patio or lounge on one of the several leather sofas perfect for a gathering spot.
The old warehouse feel with its wide planked wooden floors is packed and ready for Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde and band mates John DeServio/bass, Jeff Fabb/drums, and Dario Lorina/rhythm guitar to take the stage. A deep blue light engulfs the massive BLS drape as the voracious crowd awaits the night of metal. Sirens wail and the lights flash white and red as Fabb begins with behemothic beats. The banner falls as the metaldom begins. The legion of fans are spellbound with Wylde’s ten minute guitar solo that rips the walls with sound that reverberates throughout the immensely high cavernous ceilings. Introductions to the band begin and the crowd roars as Wylde states “It’s a sad day in rock n’ roll when I’m on stage drinking O’Douls.” Unbelievably a hush comes over the expanse as he sits down to a piano for In This River, however the metal returns and in the midst of the amassment a circle forms for a mosh pit. Lorina and DeServio are a welcome duo completing the BLS trade sound of explicit metal. DeServio has been with the band since 1999 and Lorina was recently recruited from Lizzy Borden. Fabb and his vociferant abilities on drums also plays for Filter.
The set list for the evening includes My Dying Time, Godspeed Hellbound, Destruction Overdrive, The Rose Petalled Garden, Heart of Darkness, Damned the Flood, Zakk Wylde guitar solo, Parade of the Dead, Angel of Mercy, In This River, The Blessed Hellride, Concrete Jungle, and Stillborn. Black Label Society recently released their new album Catacombs of the Black Vatican which was welcomed by fans worldwide. In support of the new eleven track album, the band begins a European tour that will take them through numerous festivals including Copenhell, Download, Novarock, Metal Fest, Graspop Metal Meeting and Putte Parken Festival just to name a few. Returning to the states in mid-July and touring through September, the tour carries the band across America to a town near you. If you haven’t had the opportunity to witness Black Label Society, now is the time to venture to the Catacombs of the Black Vatican and see what hides within.
