Hailing from the East Coast, Tyketto was signed to Geffen Records in 1990 and subsequently, released their debut album Don’t Come Easy. Classic hits from Tyketto include Forever Young, Walk on Fire, Wings and Sail Away. The rockers have recently released their first album in over eighteen years with all four original members. The new album, Dig in Deep (Frontier Records), was released in the U.S. in April.
Dig in Deep has a perfect blend of rocking, melodic songs, as well as the ever popular ballad. The album starts off strong with Faithless, which sounds like a classic rock song that will make fans happy, both new and old alike. There is definitely a little something on this album for everyone. Great melodic songs include Love to Love, Here’s Hoping it Hurts and Monday. The opening guitar riff on The Fight Left in Me will please guitar fans and it’s a fantastic, rocking song. The album closes with a beautiful ballad called This is How We Say Goodbye.
Tyketto sounds as tight as ever with excellent harmonies, rocking guitar riffs and an impressive rhythm section. Singer Danny Vaughn’s vocals are still strong. Dig in Deep is a solid album that doesn’t sound dated and is sure to please. The band has incorporated their old sound into a contemporary sound, which makes this a very modern sounding album. This band is one of the best in their genre and should have gained more exposure than they did in the late ‘80s and ‘90s.
In conclusion, Dig in Deep is well worth the purchase, and is a strong album as a whole. High points on the album are Faithless, Here’s Hoping it Hurts, Dig in Deep, Sound Off, and This is How We Say Goodbye. Hopefully there will be much more to come from this band in the future.
