R-Evolution DVD CoverIn January 2014, Eagle Rock Entertainment is expected to release : R-Evolution on DVD and Blu-ray. It was released outside of North America in November, but due to unexpected delays in producing the booklet that comes with the DVD/Blu-ray, the release date in the US was pushed back.

R-Evolution combines unseen footage of ’ early TV appearances with never before seen footage of the band’s own music films. Footage is selected and organized in such a way to give viewers a journey through the evolution of the band. As Eagle Rock Entertainment explains it, R-Evolution is “the evolution of a band that helped revolutionize the way rock bands promote their art.”

The unreleased footage includes classic performances of many favorites including People Are Strange, Light My Fire, L.A. Woman, Hello, I Love You, and Break On Through (To The Other Side).

R-Evolution also offers a healthy dose of bonus features including rare television appearances such as a Dick Clark interview and an appearance on Malibu U, which includes outtakes never seen. There is a performance of Break On Through (To The Other Side) from the Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 and a 45-minute documentary entitled – Breaking Through The Lens. Commentary is provided by Doors members John Densmore, Robby Krieger and the now deceased Ray Manzarek.

All footage is restored to high standards and the sound was remixed and mastered by Bruce Botnick, best known for his work with The Doors.  In November 1970, Botnick took over production of the L.A. Woman album (the last album with Morrison), after the band’s original producer had a falling out with the band over the album’s direction.  Botnick has also worked on albums with the Rolling Stones and Eddie Money, among others.

R-Evolution is a trippy voyage back in time. Classic footage gives viewers a glimpse of all The Doors members with particular focus on the most mesmerizing, charismatic of the bunch, Jim Morrison. They were a creative bunch, visionaries ahead of their time. For Doors fans who have collected everything since the beginning, you’ll be just as thrilled as any Doors fan to add this to your collection. It’s unlike what’s been included on other sets.
