Steel Panther - British Invasion DVD

What is the best thing about a Steel Panther show? For some it’s the wild stage antics and gyrations of the band, for some it’s the comic schtick, while for others it’s all the boobies! As for me, my favorite part of a Steel Panther show is watching the faces of those who are experiencing The Panther for the first time (with boobies coming in a close second). With their first ever DVD, British Invasion, the band exposes the 5,000 Brits at London’s sold out Brixton Academy to what we here in Southern California have enjoyed for the past number of years—and the British birds seemed happy to reciprocate…uh with “exposure” that is.

This two-disc DVD set is a lot of bang for your buck, bad pun intended. Disc One features a 90-minute, 14-song concert, opening with Eyes Of A Panther to an absolute manic audience. In spite of all the Vaudevillian/Burlesque-style comedy relief they offer in between songs, their musical performances are absolutely flawless, high-energy renditions of all your favorites. This particular concert was certainly a big budget event where the boys pulled out all the stops, from pole dancers during Stripper Girl to a female drawn Rickshaw for the opening of Asian Hooker, the crowd definitely got their money’s worth. And while the age-old tradition of throwing beach balls out into the audience is one that gets every concert goer revved up, Steel Panther does it with their own unique twist—blow-up dolls! They don’t bounce as well, but most in the audience weren’t willing to share their’s once they got ahold of her anyway.

After the acoustic ballad, Community Property, the band tears into The Shocker and showered the audience with giant foam “shocker” hands… those of you familiar with the song can imagine the formation of the fingers! Closing the show with Death To All But Metal, Steel Panther brought down the house with millions of pieces of confetti and thousands of satisfied fans. A Steel Panther concert is not for the prudish, stuffy or faint of heart, but for those of you who can appreciate crude, yet witty humor, great hook-laden songs, exceptional musical talent and a highly polished performance, will enjoy British Invasion. This DVD allows you to enjoy all the irreverence and debauchery that is a Panther party from the comfort of your own living room.

Disc Two (bonus disc) includes a hilarious 40-minute documentary, deleted scenes and a 5-song set from the Download Festival 2012, where they performed on the main stage to over 100,000 people and are joined by Corey Taylor of Slipknot! In short, this DVD set is a “must-have” for any and all Steel Panther fans and a “should probably check it out” for you who may be Panther-curious.
