Every now and then you come across a band that may not stop the globe from doing something earth shattering like turning on its axis, but your world comes to a grinding halt; you just stop and listen. And for a brief few moments the only sound you hear is that of the song, which really did stop you dead in your tracks. Now if you have an OCD problem, you’ll scour sites like iTunes and Amazon immediately because you just can’t wait around to hear it again, and that’s what Austin, TX pop rock duo The Vantage seems to be doing–and they’re gaining a lot of momentum in the indie rock scene.
INDIE ROCK? Yes, this is indie rock, acoustic at times, and it is good. The Vantage [founding members James Mason [vocals] and Jackson Wise [guitar & vocals] seem to be doing something right, and the songs flow from one to the other like On My Way and From The Start. In March of 2013, the band played their first show at SXSW and they reached the #2 spot on Billboard’s Next Big Sound Fastest Accelerating Artist Chart. Their tune; On My Way, was featured in the ABC Family series premiere of The Vineyard. The influences sifting through their new EP, This Time Now, range from Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Eat World, The Lumineers, Maroon 5 and Death Cab for Cutie.
On a cool January night after a very busy day, listening to The Vantage brought the evening to happy bouncing close; just like that little red ball—you know the one! It bounces on the words of songs you bop up and down to, smiling as you go about your business; and that happy shiny feeling lingers because from The Vantage point here, there’s Something in the Air.
